Land, old houses, and life in East Texas

Time for a Storm Shelter

After two tornadoes pass over your house in one month, it is time for a storm shelter.

This week I supervised a storm shelter install for a family member. It is an in ground shelter set into the garage floor, and it holds eight people.

The crew had two jackhammers running all day busting through rock, but they got the hole dug.

From there they set the shelter, poured new concrete around it, and tied it back into the floor. It came out perfect, and the install guys did a great job.

If you are thinking about a shelter of your own, I wrote up what to ask before you buy one.
