First in Line at Franklin Barbecue

Greg McKinney and his son at Franklin Barbecue in Austin, Texas

My son and I made a trip to Austin this week for Franklin Barbecue. We got there at 6:00 in the morning and were first in line. They do not open until 11, so that is a five hour wait, and it was extremely cold that morning. It is always worth it. By the time they opened, the line stretched down the block. They sell out every day, so the early start is the only way to be sure you get some. In my book it is the best barbecue in the state.

The highlight of the trip was my son getting to meet the owner, Aaron Franklin. That made the early morning even better.

If you go, plan on getting there early, and bring a chair and some coffee. Franklin Barbecue is at 900 East 11th Street in Austin. They are open Tuesday through Sunday starting at 11, until they sell out, and they sell out every day. Check their website before you make the drive.
