A Tunnel Job to Replace Rusted Cast Iron Drain Pipe

Rusted out cast iron drain pipe removed from under a house

This week I took care of a tunnel job for a family member. The old cast iron drain pipe under their house had rusted out. You can see in the pictures how bad it was. The bottom of the pipe was just gone.

A plumber wanted about $25,000 to fix it. We went with Veloz Remodeling out of Lindale instead. They dug a tunnel under the house, cut out the old cast iron, and ran a new drain line. They had it done in a couple of days, for a fraction of that quote. Great company, and I would use them again.

A lot of older houses around here still have cast iron drains under them, and after enough years they rust through. Tunneling lets you get to the pipe from underneath instead of tearing up the floors inside. If you ever get a big number on a job like this, it pays to get a second quote.
